We believe preventative dentistry is the best way of reducing the amount of invasive dental treatment necessary to maintain a healthy mouth.
It helps you to keep your teeth. The two main causes of tooth loss are decay and gum disease. The better we prevent or deal with these two problems, the more chance people have of keeping their teeth for life.
At Ann Millward Dental Practice we recommend regular examinations to help maintain your oral health, which would include a soft tissue check to check for any abnormal changes in the mouth. We also perform the appropriate radiographic investigations to check for early signs of dental decay that can then be treated before it becomes a problem, and diet and oral hygiene advice. After your initial visit the interval between examinations to ensure optimim dental health will be mutually agreed with you and the dental team.
We will professionally clean your teeth on a regular basis and we will show you techniques to improve your oral hygiene where necessary.
We regard children as special patients and do everything to make their visits as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.
We are very aware that good dental health and habits in childhood lay an important foundation for later years.
We take extra special care of our younger patients and make sure any nervous little ones are made to feel at ease.
Our teeth can discolour over time as a result of age and from eating and drinking certain foods and smoking. Whitening reverses this process by lightening the teeth through a non-invasive chemical process. Moulds are taken of the teeth and trays are made into which the lightening agent is placed and you wear these at home, at a convenient time, until the desired results are achieved.
Teeth whitening with whitening gels can often be the quickest, cost-effective and most conservative option for improving your smile.
Veneers are pieces of porcelain that are bonded to the front of teeth, rather like a false fingernail and can be used for camouflaging unsightly or discoloured teeth.
We use veneers to create a beautiful, natural looking smile. Veneers can close the gaps between teeth, straighten crooked teeth and completely alter the appearance of a tooth.
Crowns and Bridges
If a tooth is broken down or has large, unsightly fillings in it, a crown could be used to cover the tooth. It gives natural shape and colour back to the tooth.
A bridge is a way of replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Due to the specific nature of this treatment, at Ann Millward Dental Practice your dentist will advise you as to which type is most suitable for your individual case and the choice of materials available.
Silver fillings can look unattractive because they give your teeth a grey appearance which may be seen through the sides of the tooth. In most cases these fillings can be replaced by a tooth-coloured material, sometimes known as a white filling which repairs the tooth to its natural looking state.
Tooth-coloured fillings can revitalise your smile.
A range of dentures can be provided with a choice of materials and teeth to suit your personal requirements and budget. They can provide an immediate replacement option for a missing tooth or a tooth that needs to be extracted.
We take special care of our nervous dental patients. We understand that visiting the dentist can cause anxiety for some people. Conscious sedation is a form of anxiety control which makes treatment more pleasant for the patient. It is effective, predictable and very safe.
It will make you feel sleepy and relaxed. Most patients can remember little or nothing of the procedure.
We can use sedation techniques for any level of dental treatment from simple hygiene treatment to more advanced surgical procedures.
In the event you find you are unable to visit us at the practice, we would be happy to visit you in your home surroundings.
